CHRHS varsity basketball team prevails over Skowhegan at home game
The Camden Hills Regional High School Boys Varsity Basketball team faced Skowhegan Area High School Dec. 17 in Rockport for the fourth game of the season, and took a win with a final score of 58 to 46.
Before the game, Head Coach Joel Gabriele offered insight about this year’s team.
“We are a young team, having graduated seven seniors from last year's team,” said Gabriele. "We are trying to find our identity right now. There are many guys on the floor this season with little to no varsity experience. But we will keep growing and we will continue to work hard to improve day by day.”
To move toward success, Gabriele said the players needed to use their speed and athleticism.
"We are fast, agile and play best in transition,” he said. "I want to see us run teams off the floor and press hard.”
As for a game plan, he said: “Run the floor, apply great ball pressure, shoot with confidence.”
That game plan worked out, allowing Camden to get the win, with a final score of 58-46.
Nolan Ames, No. 35, led the way scoring-wise, with 23 points. Bench big Jacob Harrington, No. 30, scored a team third best, seven points, playing impressive defense and grabbing a whole lot of rebounds, helping the team immensely.
Camden played a smothering full-court defense the entire way, posing major problems for the Skowhegan River Hawks offense.
The Windjammers will play again Dec. 19 in a home game against Hamden Academy.
