Camden Garden Club is so proud to present the 2026 Scholarship Awards. Our candidates share their personal statements below. Their academic fortitude and intellectual curiosity, combined with a driven interest in Environmental Science, have made them stellar scholarship candidates and winners.

Norah Gallant of Hope, Maine, speaks to her future in Environmental Science. Her personal statement is compelling.

CGC 2026 After having completed my first year of university, I can happily report that I've truly enjoyed the school and my environmental science degree. Mount Allison University (MtA) has provided me with an outlet to pursue a career I deeply care about, and the environmental science courses and various other subjects I've taken have been amazing. They challenge me and have left me feeling more confident in deadline preparation, presentations, lab settings, and more. There was a learning curve in balancing my work this year, and that was largely the reason I didn't participate in as many extracurriculars as I would have liked to. Now that I have my footing in this academic setting, I'm immensely looking forward to pursuing more societies and clubs in the fall. I'm excited to join the school's Rotaract (volunteering and fundraising for those in need), Geography and Environment Society, and the Environmental Cleanup Society (volunteering to clean up litter in the local town, focused on the nearby marshlands). I also hope to continue volunteering at MtA's radio station, as it's a platform for people to showcase music, as well as podcasts on social, educational, and scientific issues. I believe the biggest takeaway from this year for me has been the reinforcement of my desire to work in an environment-based field. I strive to have a career in preservation or environmental justice policy, so having had the support of the Camden Garden Club this past year through your generous scholarship has meant a great deal to me, especially considering the CGC's work in environmental preservation within local communities.
I'm looking forward to this next year of school and how I can help support nearby communities and environments in the process. Thank you so much for this opportunity, and I send my best to you all.

Amelia Porter of Appleton, Maine, wrote a personal statement about her achievements and challenges after her first year of college.

My first year at McGill University was made possible by the generous scholarship I
received last year from the Camden Garden Club. Without this financial support, the school year
I had would not have been feasible. I am extremely grateful for the scholarship I received, and all
the things that were made possible because of it. Moving to a new country and city was daunting,
but after spending the past eight months making lifelong friends, taking classes that interest and
inspire me, and building a strong sense of community in a place so different from home, I am
confident it was the right choice for me. The academic rigor of the school was an adjustment
from high school, but the content of my classes made me passionate about learning and doing my
best. While the courses for first year were primarily lecture style classes, they opened the door to
field courses and a focus on more specific areas in the coming years. During my first semester, I
took a class called Environmental Systems that included a section about understanding soil. By
taking this introductory course, I will now be able to take a field course exploring the soil on
Mont Saint Hilaire, a mountain outside of Montreal. My degree in Sustainability, Science, and
Society bridges environmental sciences with policy and environmental justice to create a well
rounded understanding of the world around us. I would be honored and grateful to be awarded
Another scholarship from the Camden Garden Club to help continue my studies at McGill
University, as I pursue the degree and values I am most passionate about.
