Belfast baseball tops Oceanside

ROCKLAND — The Oceanside and Belfast varsity baseball teams squared off Wednesday, May 26 in Rockland. 

The visiting Lions (9-4) posted a 13-4 victory over the host Mariners (6-8). 

Oceanside plated a run in the second inning and three in the fourth while recording eight hits and committing one error. 

Belfast, meanwhile, tallied two runs in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings, as well as six in the fifth. The Lions notched 15 hits and recorded no errors. 

Repeat hitters for Belfast included Tommy Walker (single, double, home run, three RBI), Ethan Porter (two singles, four RBI), Keenan McGowen (three singles, RBI) and Chase Sanders (three singles, two RBI). Tanner Veilluex and Jason Barrett each contributed a double, while Eamon Goscinski tallied a home run. 

Repeat hitters for Oceanside included Nathan Coombs (two singles) and Connor Calderwood (two singles, home run, RBI). Bowen Brann chipped in a double, while Austin Chilles tallied a home run. 

Working the pitcher’s mound for Oceanside were Chilles, Alex Bartlett, Will Eaton and Nathaniel Barnard. 

Jason Bartlett tossed a complete game for the Lions fanning 10 batters, walking three and recording one hit-by-pitch. 

Oceanside’s next contest will be Friday, May 28 at home against Mount View at 4 p.m. 

Belfast’s next contest will be Saturday, May 29 at home against Hampden Academy at noon.
