Belfast baseball mercy-rules Oceanside

BELFAST — The Belfast and Oceanside varsity baseball teams met in Belfast for a Thursday, May 2 showdown. 

After five innings of play, the host Lions were able to collect a mercy-rule victory over the visiting Mariners 10-0. 

With the win, Belfast improved its record to 5-0. Oceanside, meanwhile, dropped to 0-7 on the season. 

Belfast plated five runs in the second inning, four in the third and one in the fifth. 

Belfast tallied 13 hits and committed no errors. 

Oceanside collected one hit and committed one error. 

Chris Kelley tossed a complete game on the mound for Belfast and recorded seven strikeouts.

Jonah Carlson pitched 4.2 innings for Oceanside. 

Leading the offense for Belfast were Dakota Payson (three hits), Luke Hamlin (four RBIs), Tanner Veilleux (three hits, two RBIs) and Samuel Davis (two hits, one RBI). 

In its next contest, Belfast will travel to Brewer on Monday, May 6 at 6:30 p.m.

In its next contest, Oceanside will host Mount View on Monday, May 6 at 4 p.m.
