Annual Belfast Ice Festival underway this weekend, Feb. 27 - March 1
The Belfast Ice Festival returns to downtown Belfast this weekend, February 27 – March 1, 2026.
Throughout the day on Friday, February 27, you will find more than 25 ice sculptures popping up around town. Among them will be a dog, owl, Yeti, airplane, and so many other designs. There will also be live carving demonstrations on Saturday, February 28, at the Purple Baboon, Nautilus Seafood & Grill, and the corner of Main and Front Street. Several downtown restaurants will offer drink and food specials all weekend, many at outside bars with warming stations.
The Ice Festival is presented by Stanley Chevrolet and Maine Chevy Dealers.
Main Street will be closed on Saturday, from Washington to Cross Street, from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. During this time, you can view vehicles provided by Stanley Chevrolet.
Saturday will showcase the Annual State of Maine Ice Carving Competition sponsored by Rollie’s Bar & Grill and Rollie’s Remote Catering in the empty lot between Traci’s Diner and Renew ME Spa. Judging will take place promptly at 2 p.m. by community judges. Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place.
Highlights of other weekend activities include a free (donations accepted) viewing on Abominable at The Colonial Theatre (163 High Street) on Sunday afternoon. You can find Brody the Moose and hot cocoa all weekend long at The Purple Baboon (31 Front Street). Find more hot cocoa at the Belfast Community Co-op (123 High Street) and as a fundraiser for the Belfast Academy of Dance outside on Main Street at the carving competition on Saturday from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
There are many opportunities to dance this weekend as well. Live music will be offered Friday evening by Shine performing at Marshall Wharf Brewing (36 Marshall Wharf) and Saturday evening at the American Legion with Phil Hummer & the White Falcons, MUSKEG, and Kitty Literally. If you prefer a DJ, you can join Our Town Belfast Friday evening for the first Frost & Flannel Ice Ball and Saturday at the Front Street Pub for the Frost Yourself Dance Party. Each venue is subject to a ticketing fee.
Looking to experience an “ice” bar? Head to Darby’s Restaurant (155 High Street), Dos Gatos (84 Main Street), Must Be Nice Lobster (30 Main Street), and Nautilus Seafood and Grill (3 Main Street). You can find warming stations throughout town as well as The Moody Dog Trailer at the Grasshopper Shop (105 High Street) both Saturday and Sunday.
