Wanda Lee Iott, obituary
OWLS HEAD — Wanda Lee Iott, 94, passed away peacefully Friday, July 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of her devoted daughters, at the Sussman House in Rockport.
Wanda was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on July 4, 1932, a fitting birthday for a woman so full of sparkle and spirit. She was the daughter of Earl Woodley and Myra Brown Woodley. Later Wanda was raised with love by her mother and her step-father, John Bradbury.
She moved to Maine as a young girl and grew into a bright, spirited young woman, graduating from Rockland High School in 1951. She was class treasurer, a cheerleader, and a Kippy Karnival Kween candidate, always right in the middle of the fun. She also spent time working at the Bell Shop in Rockland, already showing the work ethic that would carry her through life.
It was around this time that Wanda married her soul mate, Thomas J. Iott, Jr., on May 4, 1951, beginning a lifelong love story.
Wanda's energy seemed boundless. Over the years she worked at Bona Vader Printers, Van Baalen's Pacifica Corp, and Nautica, and later brought her warmth to Food Services at Rockland District High School and Rockland Middle School, where generations of students knew her smiling face. A gifted seamstress, she sewed clothing and did repairs for neighbors and friends throughout the area, sharing her talent freely. She was a proud member of the Knox County Extension and the Owls Head Garden Club, and spent many joyful years as a Girl Scout leader in Owls Head, shaping young lives along the way.
In between working and raising her three daughters, she found time to work alongside her husband in his business. Wanda assisted in the build of the last airplane Thomas ever constructed, a Steen Skybolt, sewing its fabric covering with the same care she brought to everything she touched.
And still there was more life to live; Wanda loved to cook, to knit, to breathe new life into old furniture, and to pack up the family for camping trips to their cottage at Crawford Pond in Union, always filled with laughter and fresh air. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and a true and faithful friend to so many. Her happy-go- lucky spirit, her zest for life, and her infectious smile lit up every room she entered. She will be missed dearly by all who were lucky enough to know and love her.
Predeceased by her husband, Thomas Iott, Jr. in 1996; a brother, Earle K. Bradbury; and a daughter, Cheryl Lynn Iott in 2023; Wanda is survived by her daughters Sharon Ann Iott of Rockland, Marlene Jean Iott and her companion Kevin Kalloch of Rockport; three grandchildren, Kristin Lynn Rodriquez and her husband Chris, and their children, Chris, Jr., Alyssa, Marissa, Darrion and Mason all of California, Michael J. Cole, II and his companion Emily and his son Frankie Cole of Searsmont, Myranda J. Bush and her husband Keith and their children Walter and Vivienne of Hope; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Wanda’s family would like to extend a special ‘Thank You’ to all those who provided her with wonderful loving care in her last days, especially those at Rockland Ambulance, Pen Bay Medical Center North and South Wing Staff, NorthEast Ambulance and the staff at the Sussman House.
A graveside service will be held Thursday July 23, 2026, at 1 p.m., at Achorn Cemetery, Old County Road, Rockland.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. To share a memory or condolence with the Iott family, please visit their Book of Memories at www.bchfh.com.
