Vote for a thoughtful Camden Select Board
It is critical that Camden’s voters turn out on Tuesday, June 9, to vote in the contest to fill two seats on the Select Board.
I believe Geoff Scott and Sara Skrivanich will provide you the kind of Select Board you should want. That would be one with thoughtful people who are able to listen to diverse points of view, know how to work in a constructive way toward the best solutions and believe in transparency. They have the long-term interests of the entire town at heart. They will focus on the important long-term issues the Town faces, including our heavy real estate tax burden, our failing sewer system, rising sea levels and the use of Tannery Park.
With respect to the near-term issues of paid parking and whether the Town should afford a full-time police chief, the other two candidates have made up their minds.
Sara and Geoff, with their experience on the Budget Committee, would consider all the options and impact each will have on the character of the Town as well as the financial ramifications for our taxpayers before coming to a conclusion.
I am also concerned that a number of the supporters of the other two candidates have taken it on themselves to attack various Town employees. Surely, we can have a serious dialogue without resorting to name calling and attacks on those who do the hard work of making the town work every day.
Camden should demonstrate how democracy can work at the local level to build a stronger, more unified community.
