June 20 update: The man who died in a single-vehicle car crash early Saturday morning, June 18, has been identified as Shawn Nadeau, 51, of Searsmont.

UNION — On June 18, 2022, at approximately 1:53 a.m., Knox Regional Communication Center (RCC) received a call from Hyundai Blue Link reporting a motor vehicle crash near 854 Depot Street, in Union.

According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, first responders arrived in the area and located a white Hyundai Elantra, with significant damage, off the roadway and against a tree. Upon further investigation, a single occupant was found deceased in the operator's seat of the vehicle.

“The incident is still under investigation but preliminary finds show that the Hyundai was traveling south on Depot Street and failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the road to the left, went off the roadway and came to rest after striking a tree,” said the KCSO “Speed is considered a contributing factor.”

The identity of the decedent is being withheld at this time, as KCSO waits on confirmation that the next-of-kin have been notified.

Deputies were assisted by Union Fire & EMS, Hometown Towing, and Long's Funeral Home. Warren Fire Department was called to shut down Depot Street from the Warren side.
