(Photo courtesy Thomaston Grammar School)Students at Thomaston Grammar School have been focusing on creativity during the month of May. Several students at TGS were recognized for being creative at a school-wide assembly on June 3.
Students receiving the Creativity Award were: Nellie Silverstein, Elodie Fournier, Maggie Anderson, Mallku Bertocci, Samuel Delano, Katie Davis, Riley Blakeway, Evie Guite, Lettie Robinson, Juleigha Eustis, Jack DeYoung, Anthony Pittocco, Adelina Klis, Emme Miller, Azrael Dare, Jayden Callahan, Killian Walsh, Calvin Paul, Lily Hatch, Avery McLean, Pam Smith, Evelyn Curtis, Adeline Dorey, Jack DeYoung, Lila Haskell, Seamus Henry, and Aubrey Thurston.
The students receiving the Creativity Award are known to be very creative. Creative thinkers are able to think outside the box. They are able to see new and exciting ways of doing things. They take risks and are willing to try new things without fear. Because these students are willing to be creative, they are able to produce some amazing things. People who are creative have excellent imaginations and are able to express themselves in unique and exciting ways. They go beyond what is expected, and the result is magnificent. They inspire others with their creative spirit.
Throughout the month, students were awarded daily tickets for being creative. These tickets were put into a raffle and six lucky winners were drawn at the assembly. Winners received their choice of prize, including gift cards donated by local businesses or playing a game or having lunch with Mrs. Riley. The winners this month were: Avery McLean, Jack DeYoung, James Magnoli, Seamus Henry, Calvin Chamberlaine, and Ryleigh Gagnon.
Seth Beckett was presented with the Principal’s Award. Seth is an excellent member of the Thomaston Grammar School community. He stands out in classes as a student who consistently does the right thing. He is honest, trustworthy, respectful, responsible, an excellent team player, and so much more. He is quietly safe, kind, and trying his best always. He does not need to be reminded to make the right choices; he automatically does it because that is part of who he is. He is naturally a good citizen at school and beyond.
Quinn Blakeway also received the Maine Education Association (MEA) “My Hero Works at School” writing contest.
The assembly was emceed by 5th grade students Carter Spicer and Autumn Morin.
The assembly concluded with an exciting TGS Shoe Shuffle! Four teams faced off in a fast-paced relay that tested their speed, focus, and shoe-finding skills. Selected players took off and tossed their shoes into one giant pile in the center of the gym. The excitement built as students waited for the starting signal. On the count of "3, 2, 1, TOE!" teammates raced to the pile, searched for their own shoes, put them on correctly, and hurried back to tag the next player. With shoes scattered everywhere, students had to stay calm under pressure while the audience cheered them on. The gym was filled with laughter, excitement, and plenty of school spirit as competitors searched through the mountain of sneakers and sandals. Teamwork, determination, and a little bit of luck were on full display as each team worked toward becoming the TGS Shoe Shuffle Champions.
Congratulations to all the students who received awards at TGS this month!
