Sixth inning rally lifts Oceanside past Winslow

ROCKLAND — The Oceanside varsity baseball team earned its second win of the season, in back-to-back fashion, in a thrilling way: a late-game rally. 

After allowing Winslow to plate a run in the third, fifth and seventh innings, the host Mariners plated four runs in the sixth inning to squeak out a 4-3 victory Thursday, May 5 in Rockland to boost its record to 2-4 for the season. 

The rally began when Austin Chilles scored courtesy a RBI single from Alex Bartlett, and continued when Duncan Oakes-Nelsen ripped a RBI triple to drive in Jacob Watkinson, Bartlett and Connor Calderwood.

Winslow tallied seven hits, committed two errors and stranded five runners on base. 

Oceanside recorded five hits, three errors and two runners left on base. 

Working the mound for Oceanside were Watkinson (six innings, three runs, two earned runs, six hits, four strikeouts, one hit-by-pitch) and Calderwood (one inning, one hit, one strikeout). 

Caden Fitzpatrick tossed a complete game for Winslow, allowing four earned runs, five hits, eight strikeouts and one walk. 

Notable appearances at the plate for Winslow included Fitzpatrick (two singles), Evan Bourget (two singles) and Andrew Poulin (two singles).
