Ronald Armand Demers, obituary
ROCKPORT — Ronald Armand Demers, 78, passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday, April 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
A native of Manchester, New Hampshire, Ron attended technical programs in Concord and Lowell before earning his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Nyack College in Nyack, New York. Ron was a talented and dedicated engineer, and had a gift for understanding how things work. From building remote-control planes to designing high- volume plastic molding systems, he applied his skills as a tinkerer, troubleshooter, and critical thinker to all his pursuits, both in his professional life and at home.
His skill and dedication served him well in his professional life, as he worked his way up from draftsman, to process engineer and on to engineering manager in the manufacturing industry. Throughout his career, his talents kept him at the leading edge of plastics design and engineering, pursuing advancement opportunities in the industry from Merrimack, New Hampshire, to Homer, New York, and finally on to Monsey, New York to finish his career. Ron retired to Rockport, with his wife, Louise, to be closer to family.
Throughout his life, Ron was active in his church and his community. He was a ‘founding father’ of the Greater Homer Youth Soccer Association in upstate New York, an organization that has since grown into the Cortland County Youth Soccer Association. His passion for youth sports extended to coaching both Babe Ruth baseball and soccer.
While living in Homer, New York, he also shared his technical talents with the Thespian Society of Homer High School, where he designed and built large-scale sets for student Shakespearean productions.
Ron was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Council #136 in Rockland and formerly in Merrimack, New Hampshire and a devoted communicant of St. Brendan the Navigator Church.
Ron is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Louise (Deschenes) Demers; his daughter, Jennifer Munson and her husband David of Appleton; and his son, Peter Demers and his wife Andrea (Rossow) of Batavia, Ohio.
He was the proud grandfather to David R. Munson of Rockland, Wyatt L. Munson of Portland and Lauren E. Demers of Batavia, Ohio. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, Gerard L. Demers and Jeannette (Marcoux) Demers; and his brother, Raymond Demers. Ron was also predeceased by his faithful companion and Seeing Eye dog, Axel, who led him on many adventures throughout Maine.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Ron and Axel to: The Seeing Eye, 1 Seeing Eye Way, Morristown, NJ 07960.
