ROCKPORT — Voting unanimously, the Rockport Select Board approved a contract with its new town manager, effective August 1, 2019.

Acting at its June 10 meeting, the board hired William S. Post, former town manager of Bowdoinham and Waldoboro, with a starting annual salary of $94,000.

“I look forward to working with all of you,” said Post, who was at the meeting.

A liaison to the Search Committee, Select Board member Jeff Hamilton said: “The Search Committee did a fantastic job. Everyone was dedicated and engaged with the activity. It was one of the best committees I have worked on.

    The Search Committee consisted of:
    Julie Clement
    Jerod Cronkite
    Clark Doran
Kerry Leichtman, current assessor for the Town of Rockport
    Jennifer Roper
    Maggie Timmermann, Chairwoman
    Maynard Tolman

Board member Doug Cole complimented Select Board Chairman Ken McKinley for his “steady hand on the tiller,” throughout the search process.

The contract extends for two years, from Aug. 1, 2019 through June 30, 2022.

Current Town Manager Rick Bates is retiring at the end of June.

After the meeting, Post sent along a brief biography:

I have a B.A. in political science from the University of Southern Maine and a master's in public administration from the University of Maine, Orono. I have served as town manager in Bradley, Damariscotta and Waldoboro, as well as my current town of Bowdoinham, and as administrator for Knox County (all in Maine). I am finishing up eight years as town manager in Bowdoinham.

I have served on the Maine Municipal Associations' Legislative Policy Committee for the past nine years in two different communities, on the Midcoast Economic Development District Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the past 10 years, and on the Maine Council on Aging Task Force on Healthy Aging in Communities.

I also am a Certified Municipal Manager as certified by the Maine Town, City, County Management Association (MTCMA).

I live in Waldoboro with my wife, Jennifer, and two children, Wyatt, 18, and Taylor, 17, and two yellow labs.

In my spare time, I like to read, tend my vegetable garden, and travel. I am a baseball umpire for the Midcoast Umpire Association and umpire all levels, from Little League to varsity baseball. In the past, I coached youth baseball and soccer, and was president of the Medomak Valley Little League

I appreciate the opportunity to manage the Town of Rockport and thank the Select Board for their confidence. Rockport is an amazing community and I look forward to working with the excellent team within the town's government.
