Road closure alert: Prior to July 19 Sunday Stroll, Rockland Fire Dept. to use Main Street for pre-planning operation

(Photo courtesy City of Rockland)The early closure will allow area fire departments to conduct emergency pre-planning in the downtown district, according to the City of Rockland, in a news release. Firefighters from Rockland, Thomaston, and Camden will position their aerial ladder trucks throughout Main Street to determine the best staging locations for potential emergencies.
The exercise will help crews identify how to safely reach rooftops and upper-story windows if a fire blocks normal exit routes from a building.
Pedestrian traffic will not be restricted in the area but may be held back from certain spots when the ladder trucks are operating, according to the City.
"The operation should be done by 10 a.m. at the latest to allow for the Sunday Stroll setup," said the news release.
