Richard S. Adams, obituary
Richard Adams passed away peacefully on September 2 at Breakwater Commons with his wife, Linda, by his side.
Dick was born in Thomaston, Maine, on September 20, 1944, to Doris Wood Adams and Willis Stanley Adams. He graduated from George’s Valley High School in 1964. He then received an associate degree from Wentworth Institute in Boston in 1967. About a year later, he was drafted into the Army and spent most of his two years in Germany. One of his fondest memories was traveling to Monaco with his buddies and watching Graham Hill win the Grand Prix.
After returning home from the Army, Dick worked at Martin Marietta Cement for several years as a shift foreman. He then worked at Bucknell Manufacturing for 25 years as shop foreman until the business was sold and closed. After that, he worked at Masters Machine in Round Pond until retirement.
For many years, Dick kept a large garden and was very proud of his Kennebec potatoes. His family loved the hand cut fries he made from these potatoes. In retirement, Dick dabbled in bee keeping, even going so far as to buy a complete bee-keeping outfit. He also became a bread maker and his cinnamon yeast bread was in high demand and delicious!
Dick is survived by Linda, his wife of 55 years; daughter Stephanie; son Jamie and his wife Susie; and son Christopher. He was a grandpa to Ariel, Drew, Winter, Finn, Emily, and Katie, and great-grandpa to Hamilton and Frannie. He is also survived by his sisters, Annette Powell and Mollie Athearn, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
His family would like to thank his caregivers at Breakwater Commons and his hospice caregivers for their kind and compassionate care.
If you would like, please donate to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, or to the Maine chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association in Scarborough, ME, in Dick’s honor.
