The Needle-Felted Squash & Pumpkins workshop is from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and is for ages 12 and up. Explore the sculpting process of needle felting by creating a lovely, small pumpkin or other type of winter squash in a unique, colorful style. Students will be instructed on felting needle use and safety, wool types used, creating core wool shapes, and adding the exterior wool color. Along with this, color exploration will be an emphasis. We're not just making orange pumpkins! We will be using splashes of wool colors to make each one unique. Pumpkins and winter squash will be provided for examples. Beginners are welcome, as well as those with needle felting experience.
The cost is $35 for Merryspring members or $40 non-members and is non-refundable.
Sam Coon is a self-taught fiber artist and has been making felt since being introduced to both needle felting and wet felting in 2009. Much of her inspiration is gleaned from the natural environment, particularly patterns, colors, and shapes. What particularly stands out the most to her, when working with wool to make felt, is that the sculptural qualities of wool are impressive, making creative possibilities seemingly endless. Along with working in the studio, she also regularly teaches needle and wet felting classes at varying locations and age groups.
This Weekend Workshop is generously sponsored by Camden Riverhouse Hotel.
