Respect Awards 2025 recognized at Thomaston Grammar

Several students at Thomaston Grammar School were recognized for being respectful at a school-wide assembly on October 1.
Students receiving the Respect Award were: Myla-Rose York, Austin Ames, Maggie Anderson, Seamus Henry, Hailey Ames, Everlee Baughman, Jack DeYoung, Lincoln Robbins-Sanford, Hazel Sturks, Ezra Blakey, Ryman Ames-Allan, Quinn Blakeway, Jayla O’Hare, Payton Porter, Norah Smith, Seth Beckett, Zoey Hendron, Hailey Baughman, and Noa Silverstein.
The assembly was emceed by 5th grade students Derrick Corson and Juliette Johnson.
Students at TGS have been focusing on respect during the month of September. Showing respect is one of the most important traits that each one of us should possess and practice. Having respect for yourself and for your community members is extremely important. Being respectful includes being kind to others, seeing situations through their eyes, having empathy, communicating in an appropriate way, considering the feelings of others when making decisions regarding what you do and say, being an active listener, and so much more.
Throughout the month, students were awarded daily tickets for showing respect. These tickets were put into a raffle and six lucky winners were drawn at the assembly. Winners received their choice of a gift card donated by local businesses or playing a game or having lunch with Principal Riley. The winners this month were: Dylan Latta, Opal Wellman, Adam Breen, Emme Miller, Alyvia Baughman, and Noa Silverstein.
Liam Robbins-Sanford was also presented with this month’s Principal’s Award. Liam is new to our school this year, but he has made a big impression already. He is an excellent member of the Thomaston Grammar School community. He has shown that he is a model student in all areas. He stands out in classes as a student who consistently does the right thing. His classroom teachers and allied arts staff have all shared how much they enjoy and appreciate having Liam in class and what a great addition he has been to our school.
The assembly concluded with students and teachers teaming up for a web- tastic challenge full of laughter and teamwork. We had four “spider teams,” each with one teacher bug and three speedy student spiders. When the whistle blew, the students got to work spinning their “webs” by wrapping their teacher bug in yarn until they were completely bundled up. Once wrapped, the challenge wasn’t over—they had to carefully carry their teacher bug across the floor to deliver them to the “King Spiders’ lair.”
The room was filled with cheers, giggles, and plenty of suspense as teams raced to see who could spin, wrap, and deliver their teacher bug the fastest. It was a fun way to build teamwork, celebrate creativity, and enjoy a little creepy-crawly competition together!
Congratulations to the winners: Sonny Pittocco, Marley Johnson, Emery Sturks and Mrs. West.
Next month, students at TGS will be focusing on responsibility.
Congratulations to all the students who received awards at TGS this month!
