CUSHING — A male is deceased and a female is seriously injured following a one-vehicle crash between 57 and 80 Spear Mill Road, in Cushing, Wednesday afternoon.

On May 31, just prior to 5:15 p.m., Knox Regional Communications Center received reports of the crash involving two occupants in a car that came to a stop in some trees.

Arriving deputies from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office learned that a 2006 blue Toyota Matrix, operated by Dalton Cross, 29, of South Thomaston, left the roadway and struck a tree. Cross died at the scene. A passenger, Tailynne Fogg, 19, of Rockland, was ejected from the vehicle and taken by Life Flight helicopter to a local trauma center.

The exact cause and circumstances leading to the crash are currently being investigated.

Warren Fire Department was requested for their extrication equipment while Thomaston Ambulance was requested as a second rig. Fogg was transported by ambulance to a nearby field where LifeFlight arrived and took over care.

A reconstructionist from the Maine State Police responded at the request of local deputies. He took pictures of the scene and will be analyzing his pictures of the skid marks and the car damage in the days to come.

KCSO was assisted by Cushing Fire and Ambulance, Thomaston Ambulance, Warren Fire, Lifeflight of Maine, Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Services, and State Police Reconstruction.
