Nokomis slips past Oceanside in Saturday baseball game

ROCKLAND — In a Saturday afternoon contest, April 30, the Oceanside varsity baseball team was, again, left looking for its first victory of the season as the team fell by three runs to Nokomis.

Oceanside scored two runs in the first inning, collected three hits, committed two errors and left two runners on base. 

Nokomis scored one run in the second inning and four in the third inning while recording 10 hits, committing one error and stranding seven runners on base. 

Working the pitcher’s mound for Oceanside were Austin Chilles (four innings, five runs, two earned runs, six hits, five strikeouts, two walks, one hit-by-pitch) and Jacob Watkinson (three innings, four hits, two strikeouts). 

Cody Crietien tossed a complete game for Nokomis allowing two earned runs, three hits, two walks and striking out four batters. 

The lone repeat hitter of the contest between both squads was Mason Hopkins of Nokomis who tallied two singles. 

Oceanside was able to plate its two runs of the contest when Duncan Oakes-Nelson singled to score Watkinson and Connor Calderwood. 

With an 0-4 record, Oceanside will once again seek its first win of the season when the Mariners travel Monday, May 2 to Belfast for a 4 p.m. contest.
