Nine local baseball, softball teams qualify for playoffs

The varsity baseball and softball regular seasons have concluded and nine teams, four in baseball and five in softball, from the Midcoast have qualified for the playoffs.
Qualifying for the playoffs in baseball are Belfast, Oceanside, Searsport and Vinalhaven/North Haven.
Qualifying for the playoffs in softball are Belfast, Medomak Valley, Oceanside, Searsport and Vinalhaven/North Haven.
The preliminary round games will be held June 5, the regional quarterfinals June 7, the regional semifinals June 9, the regional finals June 13 and the state championships June 16.
In the preliminary round for Class B North baseball, fourth-seeded Oceanside will host 13th-seeded Presque Isle and 11th-seeded Belfast will travel to sixth-seeded Gardiner.
In the preliminary round for Class D South baseball, top-seed Searsport and sixth-seeded Vinalhaven/North Haven will receive a bye. Searsport will host eighth-seeded Forest Hills in the regional quarterfinals, while Vinalhaven/North Haven will travel to third-seeded Greenville.
In the preliminary round for Class B North softball, third-seeded Oceanside will host 14th-seeded Mount Desert Island, sixth-seeded Medomak Valley will host 11th-seeded Presque Isle and 12th-seeded Belfast will travel to fifth-seeded Foxcroft Academy.
In the preliminary round for Class D South softball, fourth-seeded Searsport and fifth-seeded Vinalhaven/North Haven will receive a bye. Both teams will meet in the regional quarterfinals, with Searsport hosting.
