Mark Ward places sixth at New England wrestling championships

METHUEN, Mass. — Six high school wrestlers from the Midcoast competed Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8 in the 56th annual New England Interscholastic Wrestling Championships at Methuen High School in Methuen, Massachusetts. 

Competing in the championships are wrestlers from Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Connecticut and Massachusetts.  

Five of the six local wrestlers were eliminated during the opening day of competition. 

The lone wrestler to advance to the second day of competition was Mount View’s Mark Ward, who placed sixth in the event. 

Below are how the six wrestlers from the Midcoast performed in the tournament. 

106 pounds: Julian Henderson (Camden Hills) pinned by Isiac Paulino (Montachusett of Massachusetts) and pinned by Luis Mauricio (Lawrence of Massachusetts). 

113 pounds: Eric Andrews (Camden Hills) lost to Connor Doran (Ledyard of Connecticut) and pinned by Brandon Nguyen (Plymouth North of Massachusetts). 

126 pounds: Joshua Saucier (Camden Hills) pinned by John Lafferty (Woburn of Massachusetts) and lost by technical pin to Zachary Johns (Suffield/Windsor Locks of Connecticut). 

152 pounds: Mark Ward (Mount View) won by major decision against Donald Muho (Walpole of Massachusetts), won by technical pin against Joseph Cleary (Plymouth of New Hampshire), defeated Stephen Brillion (Mount Anthony of Vermont), lost to Aidan Faria (Cumberland of Rhode Island), lost to Sean Herbert (Melrose of Massachusetts) and lost to Anson Dewar (Merrimack of New Hampshire). 

182 pounds: Matt Spear (Oceanside) pinned by Kody Rashed (Concord of New Hampshire) and lost to David Langlois (Woburn of Massachusetts). 

195 pounds: Erik Benner (Medomak Valley) pinned by Shawn Conniff (King Philip of Massachusetts), pinned Booker Lester (Saint John’s of Massachusetts), defeated Jadian Mackenzie (New London of Connecticut) and pinned by Darby McLaughlin (Springfield Central of Massachusetts).
