Timothy Donald Payson, obituary
ROCKLAND — Timothy Donald Payson, 59, passed away on Chickawaukie Lake, Sunday, June 14, 2026, doing what he loved most – boating. He was born into a lobstering and boat building family February 4, 1967, the last of five children of Harold “Dynamite” Payson and Amy Payson. He grew up on Pleasant Beach in South Thomaston and attended local schools. He graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
Following college, he returned to the mid-coast to work in the boat building business for 10 years before plunging into a demanding career in the film industry. Working in the film industry allowed Tim to experience many different communities both nationally and internationally.
Tim became a property owner in 1990 and began a lifelong passion for renovation and historical restoration which led to investing in multi-unit buildings in Knox County.
He was a long-standing member of Chestnut Street Baptist Church. He enjoyed singing in both the worship team and choir and participated in mission trips abroad.
Tim’s enthusiasm for life was infectious, and he spent his days in constant motion. He thrived on the challenge of starting new projects and had a fearless attitude and matching aptitude.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, David and Neil.
He is survived by two sisters, Joy Payson Wyatt (Darrell) and Lisa Payson; his girlfriend, Rachel Coor, as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
A memorial service celebrating Tim’s life will be held Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 11 a.m., at Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church, One Waldo Avenue, Rockland followed by a gathering at Grammy’s Park on Pleasant Beach Road in South Thomaston. All are welcome to bring a dish to share.
