MADISON — Nancy Taylor Hussey, 79, of The Villages, Florida, passed away at her summer home on Lake Wesserunsett in East Madison, Maine on August 11, 2021 surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous battle with cancer.

An only child, Nancy was born to the late Kenneth S. and Ruth Z. (Black) Taylor in Belfast, Maine. After graduating from Crosby High School of Belfast in 1960, she attended Nasson College for three years, then completed her education at the University of Maine in Orono earning a Baccalaureate degree in Home Economics in 1964. Upon graduating, she worked for the University of Maine Extension Service in Skowhegan, Maine for several years. Nancy returned to Belfast in 1975 where she was co-owner of Field & Quimby Insurance and Real Estate until her retirement.

Nancy dedicated her life to her family. She was an incredibly supportive mother raising three children, who all went on to accomplish great things. Family came first and was above all else to Nancy, a value she instilled in all those around her. A kind and caring woman, she was always opening her heart and home with the mission to improve the lives of others. Her kindness was felt by those she touched as a second mom to several of her children’s and grandchildren’s friends through the years, affectionately earning the name “Momma Huss”. The hole left by her absence will be impossible to fill.

Nancy is survived by her children Carolyn Hussey Gaiero and companion Steve West of Belfast, Maine, Cathryn Hussey Dana and husband John of Marblehead, Massachusetts, and Scott Hussey of Deltona, Florida; five grandchildren: Alicia, Amy and Chelsea Gaiero, Allison and Tyler Dana, her companion Terry Sprague of Morrill, Maine; sister-in-law Ruth Brewer Hussey; nieces Jennifer Paulosky and Andrea Hageman; nephew Kevin Hussey; former husband Richard Hussey; former son-in-law Francis Gaiero III; and numerous cousins and dear friends.

When she wasn’t raising her children, traveling in her beloved motorhome, downhill skiing or relaxing at the lake in East Madison, she spent more than 30 years as a member of the Belfast Curling Club, chairing many bonspiels, serving as an instructor, and contributing to the daily operations in innumerable ways. In the 1970s she was a member of Semper Fidelis of Skowhegan and volunteered much of her time in support of her children’s activities, most notably as chauffeur extraordinaire.

A celebration of life will be held August 18, at 2 p.m., in Belfast at the United Farmers Market of Maine, 18 Spring St., in the Bayview Room.
