Midcoast Community Band free concert to perform Fearless Leader’s Favorites: Part 2
The Midcoast Community Band, directed by Jo Anne Parker, will present a free concert Wednesday evening, Oct. 1, 2025, at 7 p.m., at the Odd Fellows Hall, Elementary School Road, in Tenants Harbor. Donations will be accepted.
The concert will be a followup to a concert presented in May in Camden. Fearless Leader’s Favorites: Part 2 will include many of director Parker’s favorites through the years. She has been known for many years as the band’s Fearless Leader, hence the concert title. Parker has been leading the band in music for 38 years. Throughout those 38 years, the band has played in parades, played for many Knox and Lincoln County town events, and performed countless indoor and outdoor concerts.
Some of the favorite pieces that have delighted audiences over the years include “Rhapsody Americana” – a setting of many favorite American folksongs, “Strike Up the Band” by the Gershwins, theme from “The Cowboys” by John Williams, “Into the Storm” by Robert W. Smith – his interpretation of living thru the storm of 1993, Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero”, “Seagate Overture” by James Swearingen, “Ashokan Farewell” – the beautiful melody from Ken Burns’ Civil War documentary, “Summon the Heroes” – another John Williams piece written for the 100th anniversary of the modern Olympic Games.
If you are interested in joining the band, call Parker at 372-6737, or just show up at the American Legion hall in Thomaston for their weekly rehearsals, Wednesday evenings, at 7 p.m.
"Midcoast Community Band is looking forward to a big celebration next year – Forty Years of Making Music in the Midcoast," said the band.
