Megan Harvey begins as Belfast’s new Public Health Nurse
BELFAST — Longtime care team member Megan Harvey, RN, has been named the new Belfast Public Health Nurse.
In her new position, Harvey will work with the Belfast Public Nursing Association, which has provided essential health care and social support services to vulnerable community members for more than a century, according to MaineHealth Waldo Hospital, in a news release. The association’s mission focuses on prevention, education, and early intervention and provides referral services for individuals whose health and social needs are not met.
Harvey will also spend time in the community addressing social needs and sharing information on important health topics such as disease prevention and monitoring. Additionally, she will assist with community clinics and screenings, connect individuals to needed health services and provide support for individuals managing acute and chronic conditions. The services offered are intended to support a broad spectrum of Waldo County residents, ranging from newborns to the elderly.
“I am truly thankful for the opportunity to serve as the Belfast Public Health Nurse,” said Harvey, in the news release. “Belfast and Waldo County are home to many kind and generous individuals and organizations who genuinely care about their neighbors. I look forward to working alongside others to support and strengthen the health and well-being of our community.”
Harvey joined Waldo Hospital in 2008 and has spent nearly two decades caring for patients across multiple clinical settings, including the medical-surgical unit, post-anesthesia care unit and ambulatory care. In the ambulatory setting, she worked in the Anticoagulation Clinic, helping patients safely manage blood-thinning medications and reduce their risks of bleeding or developing blood clots. She was awarded a MaineHealth Nurse Excellence Award in 2018, a prestigious recognition given to nurses and nursing support staff at MaineHealth for their exceptional performance and commitment to patient centered care.
“Over the years, Megan has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to her patients,” said Stacey Hall, manager of population health at MaineHealth Waldo Hospital. “Her experience across multiple care settings, combined with her deep understanding of our community’s needs, makes her well suited for this important community-facing role.”
