TENANTS HARBOR — Jeffrey (Jeff) Michael Riedl, 72, died peacefully at home in Tenants Harbor, Thursday, October 1, 2020, following complications from a stroke.

Jeff was born to George and Louise Riedl on January 18, 1948, in Paterson, New Jersey, and grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey. Jeff played varsity basketball and football at Tenafly High School, helping to achieve the football state championship during his tenure. His passion for football followed him to Cornell University where he played Tight End for the Big Red and was active with his fraternity, Delta Upsilon.

After graduating from Cornell in 1970 with a degree sociology, and St. John’s Law School in 1973, Jeff began his 33-year legal career as a successful trial attorney in Ridgewood, New Jersey. He also practiced real estate and family law. In 1989, Jeff was duly admitted and qualified as an attorney and counsellor of the Supreme Court of the United States.

In January 2006, Jeff embarked on a new career heading up the expansion of a friend’s successful 27 year old New York based title insurance agency, Midland Abstract, Inc., and served as president and partner of their New Jersey office, until his retirement in 2012.

He married Christine (Tina) Economaki, a fellow Cornellian, on April 23, 1976, in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and together raised two children, Alexis and Christopher.

Jeff enjoyed life to the fullest, always seeking opportunities to “invest in memories.” A devoted husband and father, he adored spending time with his family and friends. Jeff loved to cook and entertain with tried and true family recipes, as well as new culinary endeavors.

Traveling, especially in Western Europe, was a favorite passion; and he particularly loved exploring the storied history, culture, and cuisine of each destination he visited. Above all, Jeff had a fervent love of laughter and a quick wit; cherished by all who knew him.

Jeff is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Tina; daughter, Alexis (Brian) Twomey of Melrose, Massachusetts; son, Christopher (Jen) Riedl of Denver, Colorado; and four grandchildren: Liam, Violet, and Bennett Twomey; and Sofia Riedl.

He is also survived by his sister, Judy Merrill (JB).

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Sunday, October 4, 2020, at 1:30 p.m., at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 150 Broadway, Rockland.
