Wheels keep rolling when one fire dept. call is followed by two more
Set in motion to one call, wheels kept turning for two departments responding to a shed fire on River Road in St. George.
Very soon after a report of fire in a 5 x 12 foot shed very close to trees behind 404 River Road, in St. George, prompted an FD response, a debris fire requiring a single-engine response was also noted, at approximately 12:50 p.m., on Horse Point Road, in Port Clyde. With St. George units, along with Owls Head, South Thomaston, and Thomaston, already en route to the first, 12:40 p.m., Oct. 10, 2025, 9-1-1 call, another mutual aid department that was also en route, Warren FD, was in a better position to continue on to Horse Point Road.
No injuries were reported at the shed fire. However, due to policy of having an ambulance on scene, South Thomaston Ambulance responded directly from Pen Bay Hospital where crew had just transferred care of a patient.
With the fire extinguished, and a reduced scene crew waiting for an investigator from the Fire Marshal’s Office, Thomaston FD began its drive back to the station when, at approximately 2:10 p.m., the crew was alerted to a report of a 57-year-old female who’d fallen from her bicycle with a possible leg injury approximately 1.5 miles along a trail in the Thomaston Town Forest.
Joined by Thomaston Ambulance, a lengthy process was expected for reaching the patient and returning with her to the ambulance, which ultimately went en route for the hospital at approximately 3:30 p.m.
During the day, elsewhere in the area, Camden and Rockland FDs responded to alarming detectors. EMS responded to multiple medical calls, and Rockland police responded to several minor vehicle sideswipes and bumps not requiring Fire and EMS.
