Island Institute welcomes new chief financial officer
Island Institute has promoted of Peter King to Chief Financial Officer. After seven years serving as Operations Coordinator, Budget Manager, and most recently Director of Financial Operations, King now joins Island Institute’s senior leadership team.
In his new role, King will oversee the organization’s financial operations, ensuring fiscal health and sustainability while advising on strategic financial decisions. As CFO, he will manage day-to-day finances, provide leadership with essential data on financial and human resource deployment, and contribute to shaping high-priority initiatives by aligning resources with the Institute’s goals and objectives.
King brings more than 15 years of experience in finance, including a long career as a business and financial analyst in Denver, Colorado, with Clayton Fixed Income Services and Interthinx. He returned to Maine to serve as campaign coordinator for Craig Olson for Congress and has since contributed significantly to Island Institute’s operational and financial success.
King holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Colorado College and a Certificate of Graduate Study in Public and Nonprofit Management from the Muskie School of Public Service at University of Southern Maine. He served on the board of directors for Viles Arboretum in Augusta.

He and his wife, Maddy, and their dogs, Todd and Petunia, now live in Augusta. Outside of work, King enjoys playing golf, spending time outdoors, and being on the water.
