George E. Blastow, Jr., obituary
UNION — George E. Blastow, Jr., 68, died unexpectedly with his family by his side, Saturday, August 9, 2025, at MaineHealth Biddeford, following complications of lung disease.
Born in Rockland, July 8, 1957, he was the son of George, Sr. and Laura Erickson Blastow. Educated locally, he was a 1975 graduate of Georges Valley High School, where he was Valedictorian of his class. Following graduation, George attended Bowdoin College before leaving to begin his career on the water.
On August 13, 1977, George married the love of his life, Melinda Harrington. George and Melinda were just four days shy of their 48th wedding anniversary at the time of his passing.
Throughout his life, when not working in Alaska or as a scallop boat captain, George was happiest when with his family. He loved family gatherings and cookouts, spending time at Duck Puddle Campground with his grandkids, swimming and manning the grill. He also enjoyed golfing with his son Brock, shared a passion for making jewelry with his daughter, and passed on his love for the ocean to both of his sons, bringing Aaron on his first scalloping trip at age five. In retirement, he became an avid gardener, learning to grow dahlias and teaching his daughter. He loved being outdoors with his dogs, watching them run and taking them for rides in the truck or on the tractor.
George will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
Predeceased by his parents, George is survived by his wife, Melinda Blastow of Union; his children, Brock Blastow and his wife Tonya of Rockland, Samara Blastow of Tenants Harbor, Aaron Blastow and his wife Kelly of Thomaston; his grandchildren, Mallory Blastow, Nicholas Blastow, Gavin Blastow Gillespie; his sister Laureen Blastow of Westbrook and her daughter Ashley Michaud; as well as a large loving extended family on his wife’s side.
