Freedom woman accused of setting fire in occupied home indicted
BELFAST — A Freedom woman accused of setting an occupied home on fire has been indicted on nine counts related to the May 4, incident.
Jessica Allsop, 41, was indicted by a grand jury May 22, for arson, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, two counts of aggravated criminal mischief, criminal cruelty to animals, and violating a condition of release following the Bailey Road blaze.
Occupants of the home were able to suppress the fire prior to the arrival of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office and Knox Fire Department, reportedly using a fire extinguisher and water. The fire was reportedly contained mostly to the bedroom Allsop had been temporarily staying in, according to a May 4, press release from the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Allsop was arrested the same day the fire was set, after a concerned citizen reported the flames to Waldo County Regional Communications Center at approximately 10:43 p.m.
At the time of the fire, there were two other occupants in the home, in addition to several dogs; all were able to escape uninjured.
