Anne was born in Portland, Maine, on July 26, 1932, to Oliver Hamlin and Bessie McKinney Hamlin Jackson. She spent most of her life in Appleton, Maine. She was the devoted wife of Crosby Edward “Ted” Johnson, with whom she shared 67 years of marriage. Ted passed away on March 17, 2017.

Anne was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Anne was a woman of Christian faith, and that faith was an important part of her life. She found comfort in her belief in God and in the promise of eternal life. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and reunited with those she loved who went before her. 

Anne had a long and varied working life. While her children were in school, she worked at Sylvania. Later, she spent many years working as a photographer for School Photo, traveling throughout Maine to many communities taking school pictures. She loved this work and the people she met along the way.

Anne served in important roles with the Appleton Alumni Association for many years and regularly volunteered to work the polls in Appleton elections. She could often be found on the bleachers at schools across Maine, enthusiastically cheering on her children and grandchildren at their sporting events. In her early life she was an exceptional basketball player, winning the league championship in high school.   

Anne was an avid reader of books and dedicated to solving her daily crossword puzzles. She also loved to travel. She especially enjoyed spending winters as a snowbird in Englewood, Florida, where she attended the Englewood Methodist Church with her dear friend, Yvonne. She enjoyed playing cards, watching basketball, and making memories with the people she loved. Family was at the heart of her life, and the love she shared with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family will continue through the generations. She will be remembered with love and greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her sons, Crosby Leland “Lee” Johnson of Gorham and Richard Johnson and his wife, Wanda, of Appleton. She was predeceased by her daughter, Katherine Bouchard, and is survived by Katherine’s partner, Gordon Bouchard of West Gardiner. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Shawn Bouchard of Augusta, Shelley Hickey and her husband, Wayne, of West Gardiner, Jared Johnson and his wife, Leslie, of Gulfport, Mississippi, Johanna Pyle and her husband, Nathan, of Woodburn, Indiana; Erika Johnson of Rockport and her partner, Nick; Crosby Johnson of Rockland and his partner, Hilary; and David Johnson of Appleton and his partner, Katie. Additionally, she leaves behind many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Anne is also survived by her siblings, Flora Sawyer of Warren, Jean Adolphsen and her husband, Arthur, of Hope, and William Jackson and his wife, Carolyn, of Rockland.

She was predeceased by her grandson Joseph Johnson of Bradenton, Florida; her siblings Oliver Hamlin, Richard Hamlin, Edwin Hamlin, Charles Hamlin, Lucille Bartlett, Norma Sawyer, and Lenora Bunker, as well as her sister-in-law Pauline Hill.

A graveside service will be held Monday, September 28, 2026, at 1 p.m., at Pine Grove Cemetery in Appleton, Maine. Reverend Mark Adolphsen will officiate. Family and friends are welcome to gather to remember and celebrate Anne’s life.
