'Stories from the Shore: Life as a Lighthouse Keeper' history talk in St. George

Discover the fascinating world of lighthouse keeping through personal, firsthand accounts. The St. George Historical Society and the Marshall Point Lighthouse & Museum Committee invite you to a special evening of living history, Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, at 6 p.m., at the Town Office meeting room, School Street, Tenants Harbor.
Marge Winski (Montauk Point Lighthouse), St. George neighbor and former Lighthouse Keeper from 1987 to 2018, offers a rare insider look into managing Long Island's iconic tower.
Roberta Carmichael (Whitehead Island & Marshall Point), widow of Coast Guard Lighthouse Keeper Lewis Carmichael (1967–1969), shares moving stories about the unique triumphs and trials of family life at a station.
A live audience Q&A session follows the talks.
"Bring your curiosity and your appetite for local history," said the Historical Society, in a news release.
