Class B wrestling championships: Belfast places second; Ripleys make history

History was made at the Class B state wrestling championships Saturday, Feb. 18 as Maddie Ripley of Oceanside became the first female to win a co-ed state wrestling crown in the state and also was part of the first brother-sister duo to win state crowns. 

The top three teams were Wells (181 points), Belfast (63.5) and Mattanawcook/Lee (62). Oceanside and York tied for fourth with 59 points while Medomak Valley placed eighth with 46.5 points and Mount View tied for 17th with 20 points. 

106 pounds: Maddie Ripley (Oceanside) pinned Shawn Cushing (Washington Academy), pinned Chris Anthony (York) and pinned Nick Allen (Wells). Ripley placed first. 

113 pounds: Gavynn Young (Belfast) pinned Josh Pawlendzio (York), defeated Chance Watson (Mountain Valley) and lost to Wynn Pooler (Erskine). Young placed second. 

113 pounds: Shane Goguen (Mount View) pinned by Wynn Pooler (Erskine) and pinned by Spencer Richard (Madison/Carrabec). 

120 pounds: Hagan Chase (Belfast) pinned Phoenix Martinez (Oceanside), lost to Adam St. Cyr (Lincoln Academy), defeated Anthony Vieira (Mount View) and lost to Timothy Milliken (Dexter). Chase placed fourth. 

120 pounds: Phoenix Martinez (Oceanside) pinned by Hagan Chase (Belfast), defeated Nathan Durgin (Foxcroft) and pinned by Timthoy Milliken (Dexter). 

120 pounds: Anthony Vieira (Mount View) pinned by Calvin Chase (Wells), defeated Josh Neal (York) and lost to Hagan Chase (Belfast). 

126 pounds: Kaden Bonin (Belfast) pinned Miles Smith (Mountain Valley), defeated Jim Neal (York) and pinned by Karter Crosby (Wells). Bonin placed second. 

132 pounds: Gavin Ripley (Oceanside) pinned Mya Moran (Bucksport), defeated Alissa Caltagirone (York) and defeated Dyllan Davis (Wells). Ripley placed first. 

138 pounds: Ryker Evans (Belfast) pinned by Nate Gamache (Mountain Valley), defeated Giacomo Smith (Erskine) and pinned by Logan Blaanchette (Mount Desert Island). 

145 pounds: Shamus Pease (Medomak Valley) defeated Logan Rowell (Ellsworth), defeated Dominic Zeller (Piscataquis) and lost to Brody Maxon (Wells). Pease placed second. 

145 pounds: Brian Lemar (Belfast) pinned Jacob Ouellete (Morse), lost to Brody Maxon (Wells), defeated Logan Rowell (Ellsworth) and lost to Dominic Zeller (Piscataquis). Lemar placed fourth. 

160 pounds: Gabriel Kelley (Belfast) pinned by Grady Pease (Medomak Valley), pinned Noeah Collins (Woodland), defeated Dominic Capello (Wells), defeated Grady Pease (Medomak Valley). Kelley placed third. 

160 pounds: Grady Pease (Medomak Valley) pinned Gabriel Kelley (Belfast), lost to Caden Trask (Winslow), defeated Skylan Gibbs (Foxcroft Academy) and lost to Gabriel Kelley (Belfast). Pease placed fourth. 

170 pounds: Garrett Dunton (Mount View) pinned Tate Kuhn (York), lost to Gage Beaudry (Dexter), defeated Mykolai Petrov (Washington Academy) and lost by injury default to Dominic Cookson (Piscataquis). Dunton placed fourth. 

182 pounds: Anthony Mathous (Mount View) pinned by Timber Parlin (Erskine) and pinned by Caleb Schobel (Dexter). 

195 pounds: Michael Matthews (Oceanside) pinned Luke McKenney (Ellsworth), pinned by James Dube (Mattanawcook/Lee), defeated Alex Race (Dexter) and defeated Luke McKenney (Ellsworth). Matthews placed third. 

220 pounds: Marshal Addy (Medomak Valley) pinned Eric Raymond (Lincoln Academy), pinned Isaiah Bradeen (Dirigo) and defeated Joe Bowen (Bucksport). Addy placed first. 

285 pounds: Riley Bryant (Mount View) pinned by Andrew Wisecup (Dirigo), pinned Andy Herrick (Ellsworth), pinned Beau Talbot (Piscataquis) and pinned by Andrew Wisecup (Dirigo). Bryant placed fourth.
