Rockland galleries to celebrate First Friday Artwalk, May 2
ROCKLAND — On Friday, May 2, beginning at 4 p.m., galleries and art museums throughout Rockland will be celebrating a First Friday Art Walk. Though many of the City’s galleries now open for First Fridays throughout the year — such as the Farnsworth Art Museum — May traditionally been the start of the First Friday Art Walk season, and many galleries will be participating.
- The Farnsworth Art Museum (16 Museum Street) will open its doors free of charge from 5-7 p.m. For their May First Friday event, they will be celebrating the opening of a new exhibition entitled Ann Craven: Painted Time (2020-2024). Jazz musician David Clarke will be performing Jazz standards on guitar in the museum Library and artist Erica Qualey will lead a colorful floral and natural observation project in the auditorium. The Farnsworth will also be offering rum punch from Downeast Bartending as well as bites from Owls Head General Store in the library. More at www.farnsworthmuseum.org
- Center for Maine Contemporary Art (21 Winter Street) will offer free admission from 4-7 p.m. with live music by Steel Revolution from 5-6 p.m. Their current exhibitions will be on view including:
I Forgot To Remember | Katarina Weslien; From The Collection Of Lord Red | Kyle Downs; The Sun, Trying To Disappear | Group Exhibition; and Fruition | Allison Cekala + Nate Luce. More at CMCAnow.org - Art Space Gallery (405 Main Street) invites the public to experience a fresh burst of creativity in a new group show titled Pink and Green. Each of their 16 member artists has taken on the playful challenge of interpreting this theme in their own unique style, resulting in an exciting and diverse collection of work. - Caldbeck Gallery (12 Elm Street) will be open from 5-7 p.m. with a group show of gallery artists entitled A Spring Celebration and Communion. More at caldbeck.com
· The Friends of Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge (9 Water Street) will host its first art exhibition of 2025. The opening will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will feature DownEast Maine artist Sara J. Cary as well as Student Artists from Rockland and Rockport:

· The Landing Gallery (409 Main Street) will be open until 8 p.m. with the exhibition Skyward – New paintings by Lisa Kyle.
· Steel House Gallery (639 Main Street) has a curated show featuring the Tradeswomen of Maine. The show will be a photographic expose of women in the trades. More at rocklandsteelhouse.com
