Trio of area wrestlers qualify for New England regional tournament

BATH — A trio of Midcoast high school wrestlers earned at the Maine’s New England qualifier tournament the opportunity to represent Maine at the upcoming New England regional wrestling tournament, according to results shared March 1 with PenBayPilot.com. 

The qualifying tournament was held Saturday, Feb. 26 at Morse High School in Bath. 

Representing the Maine and the Midcoast at the regional tournament will be Gavin Ripley of Oceanside, Henry Pharris of Camden Hills and Julian Henderson of Camden Hills. 

Below are how all the local wrestlers performed in the qualifying event. 

106 pounds: Hagan Chase (Belfast) pinned by James Blood (Sanford) and lost to Cody Marchand (Noble). 

113 pounds: Ryker Evans (Belfast) pinned by Ayden Cofone (Windham/Gray-New Gloucester/Westbrook) and lost to Nicholas Chenard (Massabesic). 

113 pounds: Maddy Ripley (Oceanside) defeated Mason VanGieson (Sanford), pinned by Ayden Cofone (Windham/Gray-New Gloucester/Westbrook), defeated Sean Bonzagni (Morse) and lost to Nicholas Chenard (Massabesic). Ripley finished in fourth place. 

120 pounds: Connor Fournier (Belfast) pinned by Cameron Frost (Bonny Eagle) and lost to Colby Nadeau (Lawrence). 

120 pounds: Phoenix Martinez (Oceanside) pinned by Julian Henderson (Camden Hills) and pinned by Jack Desjardins (Fort Kent). 

120 pounds: Julian Henderson (Camden Hills) pinned Phoenix Martinez (Oceanside), defeated James Chaplick (Sanford) and pinned by Cole Albert (Mattanawcook Academy). Henderson finished in second place. 

126 pounds: Michael Rollins (Camden Hills) lost to Gavin Ripley (Oceanside), defeated Connor Nelson (Bonny Eagle) and lost to Dyllan Davis (Biddeford/Thornton Academy). Rollins finished in fourth place. 

126 pounds: Gavin Ripley (Oceanside) defeated Michael Rollins (Camden Hills), pinned Dyllan Davis (Biddeford/Thornton Academy) and pinned Brycen Kowalsky (Mt. Ararat/Brunswick). Ripley finished in first place.

132 pounds: Kadin Bonin (Belfast) defeated Kyle Doody (Gardiner), pinned by Dash Farrell (Mt. Ararat/Brunswick), defeated Owen Harper (Mattanawcook Academy) and lost to Kaden Dustin (Noble). Bonin finished in fourth place. 

152 pounds: Francesco Martin (Belfast) pinned by Spencer LeClair (Mt. Ararat/Brunswick), defeated Braeden Cunningham (Morse) and pinned by Skylar Gibbs (Foxcroft Academy). 

160 pounds: Gabriel Kelley (Belfast) pinned by Shea Farrell (Mt. Ararat/Brunswick), defeated Mike Welch (Skowhegan) and lost by injury default to Marshall Fowler (Cheverus). 

182 pounds: Henry Pharris (Camden Hills) pinned Dylan Mulligan (Noble) and won by injury default against Isaac Hainer (Mattanawcook Academy). Pharris finished in first place.
