Claire Ackerman Deptula, obituary
CAMDEN — Claire Ackerman Deptula was born on August 10, 1934 in Wilmington, Delaware, the sixth child of Ella and Ernest A. Ackerman, and died on April 6, 2026. Claire was a graduate of Wilmington High School and attended Glassboro State College (now Rowan University). Shortly after graduation, Claire married the love of her life, William M. Deptula. She was a “stay at home” mom, caring for her five beautiful children.
When her children were older Claire worked as a secretary for the Cherry Hill School District in New Jersey. Claire was also a Red Cross volunteer serving at the blood drives. She became an active runner and ran many Philadelphia distance runs and completed the Marine Corp marathon in Washington, DC in 1981. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and later was an active member of the Pen Bay YMCA.
Claire was predeceased by her loving husband, Bill Deptula; two sons, David W. Deptula and Stephen W. Deptula; and grandson Jay H. Johnson Jr.; five sisters, Frances A. Viehman, Elizabeth A. Corrigan, Anne A. Sadowski, Helen A. Hubbs and Mary Lou Ruggiero.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Farnsworth (Dave), Julie Becica (Steve), and son Gregory Deptula (Julie); grandchildren Megan Becica, Andrew Becica (Mariya) Joseph and Emily Becica, Stephanie Wozny (Tim), Veronica Deptula (Kellie), Matthew Deptula, Erik Deptula (Julia) and his mother, Julia Deptula, wife of the late Stephen Deptula; great grandchildren include Carter Blanchard, Graham and Eden Kate Wozny, Ana and Damir Becica and Willow Grace Deptula.
A mass of Christian burial will be at Our Lady of Good Hope in Camden, Maine. Cremation and burial at All Saints Cemetery in Wilmington, Delaware.
