On April 8, 2026, at approximately 11:15 p.m., the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stabbing incident on Matinicus Island. The victim was transported via LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery, according to Deputy Chief Curt Andrick.

"This appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing danger to the public," said Andrick.

The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division is currently investigating, and further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
