Saturday, April 11, 2026 - 05:30 pmISLESBORO — On Saturday April 11, kick up your heels at an intergenerational community contra dance on Islesboro, presented by Belfast Flying Shoes and the Islesboro Community Center.
The all-ages program starts at 5:30 p.m., at the Community Hall, 103 Pendleton Point Rd in Islesboro. All are welcome.
"Dancers will smile and laugh as they swing their partner and do-si-do to celebrate the culmination of a Belfast Flying Shoes arts residency program with K-12 students at the Islesboro Central School," said Flying Shoes, in a news release.
Chrissy Fowler will teach easy-to-learn dances from the unique cultural traditions of square dancing and contra dancing.
"Willy Clemetson (fiddle), Samuel Foucher (accordion), Bennett Konesni (guitar) will lift everyone’s spirits and keep their toes tapping, and Melody Mishkin is providing snacks," said Flying Shoes.
Pay what you can at the door, sliding scale $10-25 for adults, $1-2 for kids.
"No experience needed, come enjoy the music, visit with friends, and maybe dust off your dancing shoes," said Flying Shoes.
Folks from the mainland are welcome to join the dance. Contact info@islesborocommunitycenter.org for information on transportation options.
