Sunday Tidbit: Angels as Deliverers
One of the ministries of angels is that of deliverance. As King David said, “The Lord’s Angel encamps round about them that fear Him, and delivers them” (Psalms 34:7). One biblical example that exemplifies this is in the book of Daniel. Because Daniel prayed to God, he was cast into a lion's den. In the morning, the King went to see whether Daniel’s God had protected him. Daniel replied, “My God has sent His angel, and has shut the mouths of the lions, so they would not hurt me" (Daniel 6:22). I, too, was once saved from certain death by an angel.
To expand the ground area for a horse corral, I rented an excavator. The large flatbed trailer that the dealer connected to my truck had tandem axles (two axles) designed to handle heavy loads. Each axle had two tires, four on each side, for a total of eight tires. With the large excavator loaded onto the flatbed, I headed home.
Something went seriously wrong. I was driving downhill when the rear of the flatbed swayed to the right. To prevent the truck from “fishtailing,” I turned the wheel to the right. The trailer straightened, then swayed to the left. I turned the wheel to the left to stay on course. The fishtailing repeated, and each time the trailer swerved farther in each direction. The trailer, heavier than the truck, pushed the truck forward. I had now lost all control. The trailer, taking me in the same direction it was fishtailing, swung back and forth across the road.
Reaching the bottom of the hill, the road curved to the left. On the left side was a steep hill, and on the right side was a cliff. With my steering wheel turned fully to the left, the trailer ran sideways into the hill. Bouncing off the hill, we veered to the right toward the cliff. With my steering wheel fully turned to the right, the trailer again reversed direction and veered left toward the hill, the trailer hitting it full force. All four wheels on that side folded underneath the trailer. Skidding to the right, the wheels on that side also folded underneath the trailer.
The trailer was now trying to pass on the truck’s right side. As we moved sideways, we were heading towards the cliff when an angel appeared on top of the truck’s cab and straightened the cab and trailer. We stopped on the side of the road with both the truck and trailer heading in the right direction. If we had gone over the cliff, the excavator would have crashed into the truck, sending me to heaven.
There have been many times when angels have interceded to protect my life. While walking in Vietnam, I received angelic guidance, knowing where to go to avoid an ambush and where booby traps were placed. I was spared injury when an Arabian horse fell on top of me. I was lying on the ground, face up, when the horse landed on top of me with its feet pointing skyward. Its weight should have crushed me. I praise God for His supernatural protection. Angels are with us, intervening in our lives; we are just not always aware of them.
