Birthday celebration for Edna St. Vincent Millay at home of her birth
Millay House Rockland will have an open house to celebrate the 134th birthday of poet Edna St. Vincent Millay. The event takes place Friday, Feb. 6, from 2 - 3:45 p.m., at 198A Broadway.
The open house will give the public an opportunity to visit the south side of the double house where Edna St. Vincent Millay was born and to learn about readings and workshops for the public, Millay House Rockland's plans for a garden behind the house, and the writer residency programs.
The judge for this year’s residency applications will be announced at the Open House, and members can pick up a broadside of a Millay poem suitable for framing.
The Millay Birthday Open House is planned in collaboration with the Farnsworth Art Museum and is scheduled to occur before the Farnsworth’s First Friday program at which a Millay Birthday Celebration will begin in the Farnsworth Auditorium, at 4:30 p.m., with readings by local poets of works inspired by the Millay quote: “More sea than land am I.”
Poets appearing at the Farnsworth will include: Kathleen Ellis, François Amar, Linda Buckmaster, Ellen Goldsmith, Annaliese Jakimedes, Judy Kaber, Gary Lawless, Kristen Lindquist, Carl Little, Jefferson Navicky, Claire Millikin, Meg Weston, and Joanna Young.
The Millay House has limited parking, so it is advisable to park near the Farnsworth or on one of the side streets near Broadway.
