'Alice: The Series' 10-year anniversary exhibit at Good Tern Gallery
The Good Tern Gallery at Hole In The Wall Bagels, 754 Main Street, Rockland, features artist and muralist Colette Shumate-Smith and her mixed‑media series inspired by Alice in Wonderland. The pieces on display reflect a years-long evolution of Shumate-Smith's artistic process within the series. The show is on view until April 25 at the bagel shop during opening hours: Wednesday-Sunday, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"The series features delicate letterforms, photographic layering, and varied textures, creating surfaces that feel both tactile and dreamlike," said Good Tern, in a news release. "Shumate-Smith's collaged use of common icons and everyday media become unexpected portals into more surreal concepts exploring her own changing perspectives across the series."
“Alice has been my companion through a decade of artistic evolution," Shumate-Smith says, in the release. "Every year she teaches me something new: about storytelling, about visual language, and the way imagination reshapes the world.”
Shumate-Smith studied art in several universities, including University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Boston University, and University of Washington. Currently based in Montville, Shumate-Smith has participated in local art shows and mural creations.
