Weaving, spinning demo at Rockland Farmers' Market
Event Date
Thursday, July 23, 2026 - 09:00 amThe Midcoast Weavers and the Midcoast Spinners will be together at the Rockland Farmer’s Market on Thursday, July 23. The members will demonstrate how to spin yarn and how to dress a loom and weave a scarf or towel or piece of art.
The public can try their hand at throwing a shuttle. Woven items will be on display to illustrate the range of products that the weavers produce.
"There is a robust fiber community in the Midcoast and we want to share our love for all the fiber arts," said Ellen Jorgensen, in a news release.
Midcoast Weavers began with three weavers gathering at a café in Rockland in 2015. Now the group has more than 40 members. They meet on the fourth Wednesday of the month, from 10-1, at Pascal Hall in Rockport. The meetings usually include a presentation by one of the members on some aspect of weaving, then “show and tell” about members' most recent projects. The last hour is set aside for study groups and socializing with other weavers.
"We always welcome new weavers and new members," said Midcoast Weavers.
The Midcoast Spinners are a group of area fiber artists whose common bond is their dedication to the ancient art of handspinning. Organized in the ‘90s, the original group (once known as the Greenhouse Spinners) met at the South Hope Trading Post. Over the years, the spinners have continued to meet at area homes and also spin at the Union Fair and at other events.
Both groups have demonstrated their craft at the Rockland Farmer’s Market over the years.
"We look forward to a lively day of sharing skills and knowledge with each other and market-goers," said the news release.
In the case of inclement weather, the event will be cancelled.
