Thomaston’s Tractor Supply reopens after odor investigation

THOMASTON — Two people opted to be checked out at a local hospital, Tuesday, Sept. 28, after an odor was detected inside Tractor Supply in Thomaston. The sensation of heaviness in the air, along with complaints of ill feelings, prompted staff to evacuate the store and call 911 just prior to 4:50 p.m. A third person was also assessed, but turned down any further intervention.

Two crews of firefighters from the Thomaston and Rockland fire departments spent more than half an hour searching the interior and the roof for any indications of gas that may show on multiple air and gas meter readings.

In the end, no readings were detected and the cause continues to be unfounded.

Rockland EMS was called to help tend to the three initial patients. Being a possible gas-related incident, when Thomaston Ambulance transported both patients to the hospital, an ambulance from South Thomaston was requested to stand by at the scene while also covering potential Thomaston medical calls. While parked in the store parking lot, the South Thomaston crew was called to a Thomaston request for an ambulance.

All responders were clear of Tractor Supply at 6:15 p.m.
