'Stillwater' bluegrass band to perform at Hammer Hall, Nov. 2
"Stillwater" bluegrass band will perform Sunday, Nov. 2, at 4 p.m., in Bay Chamber's Hammer Hall.
Stillwater was formed in 2023 in Old Town, while its members attended University of Maine at Orono. They pursued different degrees, some jazz scholars, some STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) students.
"Regardless, they played together through the college years and the rest is history," said Bay Chamber.
Stillwater is: Trip Nickel, guitar; Yoni Musher, mandolin; Kiera Luu, double bass; George Horvat, fiddle; and Jack Pasternak, dobro.
"Stillwater found its purpose along Maine's birch-lined Stillwater River," said Bay Chamber. "It went a little something like this: let's take every musical style we know and pour them into one spectacular bluegrass band. The result is a roaring good time with top-notch musicians. In fact, the band has emerged as a celebrated new voice in the New England bluegrass scene."
Drawing inspiration from jazz, bluegrass, jam band, folk, and old-time genres, the band crafts memorable musical programs, according to Bay Chamber.
"Bluegrass is a melting pot of many musical styles" says double bassist Kiera Luu. "We dabble in classic country, Western swing, folk. Stillwater has made the most of their short time together, leaving an air of excitement for future releases and shows."
