Sarah Allan Ogilvie (Clark) Hart, obituary
WILTON, Connecticut — Sarah Allan Ogilvie (Clark) Hart, age 88, died on January 18, 2026, in Wilton, Connecticut, surrounded by her loving family.
Sarah was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, to Margaret Guyan Clark and John Robertson Clark. She attended Aberdeen High School for Girls and enjoyed spending weekends dancing at the Beach Ballroom with her sister and friends. She came to the United States in her early 20s to visit family in Glens Falls, New York, and met the boy next door, who became the love of her life, and to whom she was married for 67 years. They had two daughters and began their life traveling and living in various states before settling in Henrietta, New York, and later Liverpool, New York, where they lived for 25 years before retiring and moving to Hope, Maine, where they lived for 21 years before moving to Connecticut to be closer to family.
While working full time as a legal secretary, Sarah went back to school and earned her Associate in Arts degree from Onondaga Community College, a Bachelor of Science from Syracuse University (Inter Related Special Education); and a Master of Education from the State University of New York at Oswego (Early Childhood), and became a special education teacher in the New York State School system where she worked before retiring. Throughout her life, she was a tireless advocate for individuals with special needs.
Sarah was an avid reader and had an extensive knowledge of history, especially of her beloved birth home, Scotland, which she loved to share with family and friends. She would regale friends with Scottish traditions, songs, and her favorite toast at the New Year. She loved music and opera and musical theater.
Prior to retirement, she enjoyed sailing Lake Ontario aboard their sailboat, Queen of Hearts, and spending weekends with friends at the Boathouse Marina in Fair Haven, New York. She loved to crochet, taking after her mother. She was an expert seamstress and made clothing for herself and her daughters for special occasions and later when her grandson was born, she designed his christening gown. She also enjoyed knitting beautiful sweaters, and every Christmas she would knit scarves and mittens for the friends of her daughter Teresa, who attended the Coastal Opportunities Day Program in Camden, Maine. She was a talented home cook, loved to bake, and passed on her favorite Scottish recipes, especially for Thanksgiving stuffing, Christmas Trifle, and her apple pie.
In retirement, she enjoyed designing and nurturing her perennial flower gardens in Maine, as well as sailing aboard their sailboat, Highlander, off the coast of Camden and Rockland, in Penobscot Bay. She treasured spending time with her family and being a grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Herbert Bernard Hart, Jr.; her daughter Margaret Alison Hart (Alan Oshiki); her daughter Teresa Jane Hart; her grandson, Ethan Oshiki; and her niece, Fiona Enright (Michael Enright).
She was predeceased by her father, John Clark; her mother, Margaret Clark; and her sister, Margaret “Greta” Robertson (Stuart Robertson).
A private memorial service will be held for family and close friends.
