One vehicle on its side in Rockport during winter rainstorm
ROCKPORT — Rockport responders were able to keep one lane of Rockland Road open at Mirror Lake as they worked to extricate a person from a vehicle that had landed on its side in the ditch Wednesday morning in wet conditions.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was removed through the windshield and transported to MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The vehicle was westbound near 870 Rockland Road (Route 17) prior to 10:20 a.m., Jan. 7, 2026 when it crossed the center line and left the roadway. Though Rockport PD will follow up with the driver at a later time, responding officers at the scene took into account tire marks in the ditch prior to a driveway just east of the crash location. On the westbound side of the driveway, bark was noticeably missing from two trees, and then car was seen in the snowy ditch, indicating the possiblity that the vehicle had hit the upraised driveway, became airborn before landing at a utility pole. The vehicle came to rest on its side, against the pole, leaving firefighters and EMS considering whether to remove the roof in order to reach the operator. In the end, they were able to make access through the windshield.
