Oceanside baseball edges Medomak Valley in thriller

WALDOBORO — The Oceanside and Medomak Valley varsity baseball squads squared off Friday, May 14 in Waldoboro in a nail-biting contest. 

In the end, the visiting Mariners (3-7) found itself edging the host Panthers (2-6) with a 3-2 win when Nathan Coombs drove the winning run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly. 

Oceanside plated two runs in the fourth inning and one run in the seventh inning, while Medomak Valley’s two runs came in the third. 

Medomak Valley recorded five hits, committed two errors and left seven runners on base. 

Oceanside, meanwhile, recorded six hits, committed no errors and stranded six runners. 

Alex Bartlett (three singles) was the lone repeat hitter for Oceanside, while Ethan Reed (single, double) was the lone repeat hitter for Medomak Valley. 

Working the pitcher’s mound for Medomak Valley was Isaac McCollett (six hits, seven strikeouts, three walks). 

Duncan Oakes-Nelsen (one earned run, five hits, seven strikeouts, four walks, one hit-by-pitch) pitched for Oceanside. 

The next contest for Oceanside will be Monday, May 17 at home against Lincoln Academy at 4 p.m.

The next contest for Medomak Valley will be Monday, May 17 at home against Camden Hills at 4 p.m.
