Troy Howard Middle School eighth grade baseball team edges out Medomak in semi-final game
On June 6 Medomak Middle School's eighth grade baseball team traveled to Belfast to play a No. 3 vs. No. 2 semi-final game against Troy Howard Middle School.
In the end, Medomak's season, and seven-game winning streak, came to an end, losing 4-3 by virtue of aggressive base-running and good pitching from Troy Howard.
The teams played two scoreless innings through some drizzle before the Riverhawks broke the tie with a run in the top half of the 3rd as Liam Ruffner, who walked, scored on a ground out by Wyatt Hood.
In the top of the fourth, Medomak plated two more with Keith Miller singling and scoring on a hard grounder by Nick Bowman that got through the infield; then Avery Kunesh-Lowe walked and came across on an errant throw home.
Troy Howard answered in the bottom of the fourth as Cole singled and scored on an error, then Aidan walked before scoring on a wild pitch. The Lions got two more in the bottom of the fifth in similar fashion: error, fielding miscommunication, wild pitch and scoring the eventual winning run on a 1st and 3rd steal that got an out at second but was too late to retire the runner coming home from third.
Pitching four-plus innings for MMS was Landon Morrison who struck out three, walked three and gave up four hits.
Wyatt Hood relieved, pitching two innings, one strikeout and one hit. For Troy Howard, Cole pitched four innings striking out eight, walking four and allowing two hits. Aldan pitched the final three innings striking out two, walking two and giving up no hits.
The two hits for Medomak were from Jacoby Severson and Keith Miller while Troy Howard got two from Hayden, and one each from Cole, Michael, and Tucker.
