Panthers swing past Mariners in baseball regular season finale

ROCKLAND — The Medomak Valley and Oceanside varsity baseball teams squared off for a regular season finale showdown Wednesday, June 2 in Rockland. 

The visiting Panthers walked away with an 8-1 victory leading both teams to finish the regular season with a 6-10 record. 

Medomak Valley plated three runs in the second, two in the fourth and three more in the fifth inning, while Oceanside plated its lone run in the fifth inning. 

The Panthers tallied 10 hits, committed one error and left nine runners on base. The host Mariners, meanwhile, recorded seven hits, committed one error and abandoned four runners. 

Repeat hitters for Medomak Valley were Ethan Reed (two singles, two RBI), Noah Crosby (two singles, three runs) and Aiden Starr (two singles, two runs). Max Moody recorded a double and Blake Morrison contributed three RBIs. 

Nate Coombs (two singles) was the lone repeat hitter for Oceanside and Alex Bartlett tallied a home run. 

Working the mound for Medomak Valley was Matt Holbrook (seven hits, nine strikeouts). 

Nathaniel Barnard, Will Eaton, Bowen Brann and Coombs (7th) pitched for Oceanside. 

The playoffs are on deck next for both the Panthers and Mariners with opponents to be determined.
