Mark Anthony Harwood, obituary
CAMDEN — With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mark Anthony Harwood, age 55, of Camden, Maine, who left this world peacefully on August 5, 2025. Mark was a kind soul with a sharp wit, a generous heart, and a deep love for the simple joys of life—his family, fishing, and the loyal companionship of his beloved dog, Buddy.
Born in Camden in 1970 to Richard Harwood Sr. (deceased) and Marguerite Clark of Camden, Mark was one of four siblings. He is survived by his mother; his brothers Richard Harwood Jr. of Camden and Ronald Harwood of Appleton; and his sister, Barbara Harwood von Saltza (his favorite sister, as he often said), and her husband Erik von Saltza of West Rockport.
Mark was the proud uncle of Nicholas von Saltza of Liberty and Erika von Saltza of Camden, and he held a very special place in his heart for his great-niece Adelyn Pearson, whom he adored beyond words. He will also be deeply missed by many cousins, aunts, and uncles.
In his quiet and grounded way, Mark built a life around the things that mattered most. He loved casting a line into the harbor, the companionship of his dog Buddy, and long evening rides through the countryside with his good friend Woody Proctor, sharing stories and the peace of the open road.
He was a man of few words but deep feeling—a gentle presence who touched the lives of those lucky enough to know him.
A private celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date. In honor of Mark, take a moment to breathe in the fresh air, sit by the water, or give your dog an extra treat. That’s how he’d want to be remembered.
