Maine Seacoast Mission scholarship application period opens for students pursuing higher education
Maine Seacoast Mission is now accepting applications to its Scholarships program for the 2026-2027 academic year. Open to current high school seniors and adult learners, the Mission welcomes applicants who live in Washington or Hancock counties or on a Maine outer island served by the Mission.
The Mission’s Scholarships program honors the myriad paths to achieve higher education and workforce readiness, providing scholarships for individuals entering trade, technical, and two and four-year institutions. Since 1918, the Mission has awarded almost $3 million to more than 3,500 students from Maine’s outer islands and Downeast coastal communities, according to the Mission, in a news release.
“For over 100 years, the Mission has offered scholarship opportunities to make higher education accessible, reduce the need for student loans, and allow students to focus on studies,“ says Mission President John Zavodny. “It’s exciting to hear our Scholars’ stories and see what they go on to do in their post-academic careers.”
In 2025, the Mission awarded $246,000 in scholarships to 82 students. 27 Scholars began their college journeys in the fall of 2026, with 15 seniors graduating. 72% of those students attended a college or university in Maine. Each year, approximately 25 new scholarships are awarded to deserving students. Scholars are chosen based on academic merit and financial need. Most scholarships are renewable throughout a student's four years in college.
The application period begins Sunday, March 1 and will remain open through Wednesday, April 15. To learn more about Maine Seacoast Mission's Scholarships and apply, please visit https://seacoastmission.org/downeast/scholarships/.
